Weapons of Mass Distraction

In all honesty, a total around 95% of all people in my class look at something they shouldn't be on in the middle of class. Being at the back of the class, I can see almost everyones computers, and still haven't seen more than two people on what they should be on. And it is really, really, really hard to concentrate on what the teacher said while concentration on something else. I have tried it. But it is hard not to go on another site- as I am writing this, there is someone right next to me looking at Facebook. But when the class begins to drag on, and we go onto a topic that I have already basically understood, or doesn't seem to be necessary to my learning (you have said that "this is the most important lesson in seventh grade" hundreds of times, Mr. Buxton), I will go onto something- even worse, I will directly try to find something more interesting even without an ad, or an eMail. I will try to distract myself just so that I can escape the lesson and look at something more interesting or funny. That's also why people immediately read an email when they receive it- they are bored with what they are doing and so they directly try to distract themselves by reading the email. And even better, receiving an eMail isn't their fault, so they technically aren't distracting themselves, they are the ones being distracted, and of course, the email could be important, so there is no guilt from distracting yourself on an eMail. All in all, the actual distraction is boredom- if I don't think the lesson is worth listening to, I won't listen.

Complicated sentences and Complex sentences

What is a complex sentence?
A complex sentence is a sentence which has one independent clause with one or more dependent clauses, which, unlike both clauses in a compound sentence, CANNOT stand alone.

What are the different parts that make up a complex sentence?
Two subjects and verbs (one for each clause), a subordinator (kind of like FANBOYS, joins the two clauses together, FX. Because, Since, After...), and if the subordinator is a the beginning of the sentence, a comma in between the two clauses.

What are the differences between complex sentences and compound sentences?
Compound sentences have two independent clauses that can both stand alone in a sentence. Complex sentences have one independent clause and one dependent clause, which cannot stand alone. Also, Compound sentences are linked with FANBOYS, complex sentences can have many other subordinators.

I went to Social Studies after lunch, but my friend headed off to RLA. While I was working on my Social Studies project, I realized I had forgotten my computer. I ran down to the RLA room, but my friend wasn't in his class. I did not see my friend because he had left to find me. Although I had forgotten my computer at the cafeteria, my friend had already found it and was trying to return it!

Hardly. Just getting 60 minutes on each day was incredibly hard, especially with extracurriculars and such. On a normal basis, I would probably get a lot less than 60 minutes.

Exercising improves my self-esteem and enthusiasm, and it decreases stress. Also, it decreases the chance of heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis and several other particularly dangerous diseases. It also helps several other seemingly trivial things, such as better digestion, better sleep, and makes calcium distribution more efficient.

Critique- the Door Scene

After the big switch we received Justin, Grace, and Jacobs door scene. It was a slightly less than detailed, but the text underneath more than made up for that. It seemed to lack several key details- most of the movie was outside ten feet of the door, and the relief scene didn't really seem relieving. The worst part was that we were responsible for making the movie follow the criteria best...

To improve the storyboard, a little artistic clarity would be helpful. Also, the relief scene didn't seem to make any sense, and it didn't connect to the previous scene. However, the eyes and mouth scene was really creative, and the relief scene was funny- if you look in the right place. The shadow was also a great way to build tension and dramatical-ness.

There were lots of great opportunities for camera angles. Most of the storyboard shots were full body shots, except the door handle jiggling scene, so we changed many of them. Sound effects for this movie would be best if they were more dramatic instead of creepy. The running was hardly creepy, so you would need some music that was dramatic, and built tension instead of fear.

You really need a clear storyboard, that is complete. In the last scene, the description said "victim wakes up, but little does she know...", and we had no idea what they meant. We guessed that there should be another person peeking out at the victim as she woke up, but it was hard to shoot as the panel only has a picture of two people diagonal from each other with no background whatsoever.

We need to change the first scene. It was a clever pan of the main character, from feet to head, but since it was from behind it looked like it was from the point of view of a child molester. We will keep the key scene, with the close up of a door handle, because it showed what the victim was trying to do, but it didn't show what was actually around the victim, so it made you wonder what horrible abomination was stalking the victim.

Biosphere Science Query

The idea of living on mars could cool, but what benefit would it have? If something bad happened, we would probably all die, and there would be no way out. There is also no way back if you regret living on mars. The human body also isn't accustomed to living on mars, so living there could be very uncomfertable, Therefore, I probably wouldn't go to mars.

The main thing we need is air. With plants, that should be easy enough. Then we need food. Plants could solve that reasonably easily also. The main problem is probably exercise. In zero-g, the human body expands, and that could easily break your spine if your muscles aren't strong enough. Exercising equipment would be required. Otherwise, life could be sustained easily enough.

A comet could easily destroy everyting. The tiniest piece of space dust could crack the dome and all life would freeze, burn, suffocate, or explode. No more biosphere. This has happened to the ISS many times, so biossphere is susceptible too.

ITN Reflection and Goal Setting 2014

A good topic is an interesting topic (lots of ITN presentations made me yawn), an easily understandable presentation is also, and a voice that people can at least hear (lots of people didn’t do this).

I choose a really good topic, which connected very well with our current government unit, and I also spoke very clearly while I was presenting to the class.

I presented a topic that had already been covered in class, already had been done by another faster person, and already was old news when I showed it. Everyone had also probably read it in the newspaper.

I need to start looking more closely at dates, and check the news at least once every day in case more news is added. Last time, my entire topic was revolutionized when the anti-obamacares decided to give up.

I need to check if a topic has already been done, or has a high chance of being done before me. Pick a topic that most people probably won’t hear about, or you’ll be repeating what has been said thousands of times already.
